The Edge

Grades rising 10th & 11th

This leadership program provides the opportunity to practice 21st century skills in real life settings, giving participants an edge in life.

The 6 guiding tenets of the The Edge Program
1

Motivation

It takes the right staff and energy to motivate teens. The Edge staff are hand picked for their ability to motivate and facilitate these leaders of the future. Finding the balance between internal and external motivation is the key.

2

Reflective

Our Edge campers get the opportunity to lead activities like Trailblazer Choice with our rising 2nd and 3rd graders. After all the preparing, planning, and presenting, they process the experience with the counselors and each other.

3

Social Conflict

The beginning and middle of high school is a time when social freedom is desired, however still dependent on parents for transportation, primary needs and assistance.

4

Physical Development

Most high school students are still learning themselves physically and deciding how to utilize their assets effectively. Our trained staff help the Edge campers choose the right path during this developmental time.

5

Maturation and Motivation

Many high school students are in different places on the maturation scale. This program gives each Edge camper the opportunity to step up as much or as little as they are comfortable.

6

Cognitive Development

Edge campers are ready for the next step in life. We want them to have the Edge in whatever is next for them. The opportunity to lead programs, practice interviewing for jobs, learning first aid, planning and presenting a program to the leaders of the camp all give these campers THE EDGE!

All About The Edge

The EDGE program puts our campers on the path to become future camp counselors.

  • Planning/organizing weekly activities and events for younger campers.
  • Shadowing opportunities with camp groups.
  • Life Skills – Campers in the EDGE program may work with local business owners/representatives to learn everyday life skills such as banking, preparing to purchase a car, school supply drives, etc.
  • Extended experiences – EDGE campers will occasionally have the opportunity to plan their own out of camp trips. Including communication with local businesses, budgeting, vehicle preparation, and more.
  • Our Edge program is available 6 weeks out of the summer (Weeks 3-8). It is a progressive program with each week building upon the week prior. In order to be eligible for a staff position the following summer, we encourage campers to attend at least 4 our of the 6 available weeks.
