The Edge

Grades rising 9th - 10th

This transitional program provides the opportunity to learn leadership and fundamental skills used in all aspects of life.

The 6 guiding tenets of the The Edge Program
1

Motivation

It takes the right staff and energy to motivate Teens. The Edge staff are hand picked for their ability to motivate and facilitate these leaders of the future. Finding the balance between internal and external motivation is the key.

2

Reflective

Our Edge campers get the opportunity to lead activities like Trailblazer Choice with our rising 2nd and 3rd graders. After all the preparing, planning, presenting, the process the experience with their counselors and each other.

3

Social Conflict

The beginning of high school is a time when social freedom is desired, however still dependent on parents for transportation, primary needs and assistance.

4

Physical Development

Most early high school students are still learning themselves physically and deciding how to utilize their assets effectively. Our trained staff help the Edge campers choose the right path during this developmental time.

5

Maturation and Motivation

Many high school students are in a different places on the maturation scale. This program gives each Edge camper the opportunity to step up as much or as little as they are comfortable.

6

Cognitive Development

Edge campers are ready for the next step in life. We want them to have the Edge in whatever is next for them. The opportunity to lead programs, practice interviewing for jobs, learning first aid, planning and presenting a program to the leaders of the camp all give these campers THE EDGE!

All About The Edge

Campers will gain understanding of working within a group and the operation of a camp as a business and program. Campers may participate in CPR and First Aid, learn how to belay on our high team challenge course, create intra-camp programming and go on out-of-camp trips planned by the group. Upon successful completion of the Leadership Training program, campers may be invited to apply for a position at Triple C Camp!

What's special in The Edge

Planning their own Field Trips

Edge campers go on a field trip once a week with their Counselors.

Why?

Campers are given a budget and together they must come up with options for a day out of camp.  This includes research. Using the phone book and telephone to call places as well as reporting back to the group on what was discovered.  Once all options are presented the group decides what they will do and where they will go.  On the day of the trip, the group must inspect the vehicle before they leave which includes checking the oil and all fluids, tires, first aid kit, etc.  Great growth opportunity for our future drivers

Leading Trailblazer choice

Every Wednesday  morning rising 2nd and 3rd graders get to choose two round of choice activities.  These choices and staff assignments are organized by our EDGE campers.

Why?

Trailblazer choice is the perfect activity for EDGE campers to prepare, plan, present, and process an event.  All the organization that goes into this planning is the safe responsibility these campers need to take them to the next level of ledership.  Not just at camp, but in their own lives.

We then help transfer the leadership to home, high school activities and their first job

Flexibility is the key to camping. We know that families have busy lives, so we try to be accommodating to all families needs.

Overnights

EDGE campers plan their own activities at an overnight.  It is up to the group as to the type of activities they do, what order they do them in and who they do them with.  Of course, an EDGE staff member is with them all evening.  Many EDGE overnights include tent camping, their own fire circle and of course S’MORES!

Lunch is provided

Lunch and snack menus meet USDA guidelines.  We serve food that is nutritious and that kids like to eat.  Lunches include a green leafy salad, fruits and vegetables daily.  Main courses are chicken nuggets, burgers, dogs, tacos, mac & cheese, etc. Peanut butter and jelly is available every day.

Transportation options

Transportation is provided in Triple C vehicles, camp buses or multi passenger vehicles.  All drivers are licensed, trained and experienced.  Pick up points are at Barracks Road Shopping Center, Fashion Square Mall, Pantops and Piedmont Virginia Community College. Choose what works best for your family.

Frequently Asked Questions about our Edge Program

Beside planning activities, what do they get to do?

Planning Trailblazer Choice and the Edge field trip are staples of the Edge program.  However, Edge campers swim every day, play ga ga, learn how to belay and climb on the ropes course, do craft projects, sports, hiking and so much more. The Edge program is the ultimate in growth and development of all Triple C Camp programming!

Does my child need to pack a lunch?

Camp provides lunch every day for Edge campers.  However, on field trip day, please talk to your camper to find out if the group decided to use budgeted money to pay for lunch, or decided to pack. A non perishable lunch is preferred when packed.

What type of communication skills do they learn?

Planning, preparing and presenting their ideas for events at camp really helps grow the skill set of our oldest campers.
